Chapter Analyses Essay Many events opened up the book in chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby, indicating that this book would appeal to many in a sense that it could be easily connected to. A significant quote from chapter 1 is a thought from Nick explaining his family heritage. English Chapter 3 Analysis A symbol in chapter 3 that has an appearance to reality circumstance involves the image of Gatsby’s parties and his mansion. The appearance side of the symbol is that his parties and mansions are his way to show others his extreme wealth. The reality side of the situation is that although he is wealthy, this does not mean that people respect him for that. Chapter 4 Analysis In chapter 4 of The Great Gatsby, Daisy’s happiness is tested when she realizes that money cannot buy everything, but if she is going to be depressed she might as well be depressed with a rich man. He came down with a hundred people in four private cars, and hired a whole floor of the Seelbach Hotel, and the day before the wedding he gave her a string of pearls valued at three hundred and fifty thousand dollars. tells the reader that on the day of the wedding she had become happy again because she notices that Tom Buchanan uses his wealth to please her, making her feel like she is the queen upon her throne. The night before the wedding, she is presented with a string of pearls worth three hundred and fifty thousand dollars making her happy, yet the affection he shows her by giving a gift is not what makes her happy, it’s the fact that she is being showered with items that hold her happiness for only a limited amount of time. Even though she is happy, Nick knows that her emotions are covered by inanimate objects that should not make a person enjoy their life the way other things can. Chapter 5 Analysis In chapter 5 of The Great Gatsby, there are many symbols that represent the story well, but the main one of chapter 5 is Gatsby’s shirts. Gatsby’s shirts represent a large symbol because of the reaction that Daisy gives when she first sees his shirts while Gatsby is giving her a tour of his mansion. The shirts represent a hole in Daisy’s life that she can only fulfill through a life indulged with money and wealth. She had never seen shirts as extravagant as Gatsby’s shirts, only making her realize what she had left out on. She left out on the man with actual wealth she desired unlike Tom who was rich, but did not shower her with the gifts she expected. This is one possibility, or it could be that she is realizing that she left on the guy that has the wealth and can give her the love that she needs. All her time spent in East Egg made her love money more than she loved another person. She would talk about her house and how she got gifts from Tom when they were getting married, but she not once talked about how she was madly in love with Tom. The date that Nick set up between Gatsby and Daisy was to rekindle the love that they once shared back in Louisville, and that is exactly what he did not knowing that he was only making the relationship between Daisy and her current husband. To sum everything, Daisy’s lust for money is dwindled when her love for Gatsby is resurrected. She realizes that she had given up on the man that she had always dreamt for but could never have making her settle with Tom after the war. Chapter 6 Analysis In chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby, Daisy rekindles her love for Gatsby more and more while Nick is busy and has not interacted with them at all. Gatsby reveals that he was born on a farm with a completely different identity. Gatsby says, â€Å"I suppose hed had the name ready for a long time, even then. His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people—his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God – a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that – and he must be about His Fathers business, the service of a vast, vulgar, and meretricious beauty. To me this would show that he believes his identity with all his heart and would do nothing to go back to James Gatz. This also engraves an idea in our heads that Gatsby didn’t want to live his life how he was living it proven by the fact that he changed his name so that he could have a fresh start but continue in his father’s business so that he could inherit the money that he had not worked a day in is life for. All in all, Gatsby created a whole new identity for himself because he was not satisfied with what he was given, and felt that creating a new identity would give him a way to restart his life, but to also inherit the wealth from his family’s business. Quinn P. 8/15/13 A. P. English Chapter 7 Analysis In chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby, the tension is rising as events start to unfold. Myrtle’s husband has come to understand his wife’s infidelity, while Tom, Daisy, and Nick ride to New York together. These events lead up to the central image of chapter 7 that is important to the story. Nick has forgotten his thirtieth birthday due to the fact that he is so involved in his friends problems. First, he is involved with the problems between Daisy and Tom, which include their relationship problems, social problems, and family problems. Then Nick is also involved with Tom and Myrtle’s problems such as their relationship problems and their need to keep their affair a secret from people so that it does not damage his current relationship with his wife anymore than it is. Finally, Nick is involved with Gatsby and Daisy’s interactions such as setting up their dates to meet, keeping their relationship a secret so that Tom does not figure out what his wife is hiding from him. All these problems add up so that Nick barely has a second to think about himself, and the time he does realize that the day upon him is his thirtieth birthday that he has to celebrate doing what Gatsby, Tom, Daisy and Myrtle want to do. This image is a big part of chapter 7 because helping his friends is starting to take away from his American Dream of heading to the East to learn the bond business. Chapter 8 Analysis In chapter 8 of The Great Gatsby, Nick is still swamped in his friend’s problems so much that he is getting up at four in the morning so he can make sure that Tom didn’t hurt Daisy in any way. However, there is a quote that says a lot about what Gatsby does in his life and it is a very good example of the American Dream as well. Nick says â€Å"No telephone message arrived, but the butler went without his sleep and waited for it until four oclock – until long after there was any one to give it to if it came. I have an idea that Gatsby himself didnt believe it would come, and perhaps he no longer cared. If that was true he must have felt that he had lost the old warm world, paid a high price for living too long with a single dream† to the reader signaling somewhat of a foreshadowing but mainly that Gatsby too had some type of dream even after he achieved extreme wealth. The foreshadowing is relevant because towards the end of the book, he pays a high price for living with a single dream such as he did with only desiring Daisy for all his life. He connects with our modern day society who is striving to achieve the American Dream with a future that is engulfed with a workplace that some may think impossible; therefore, leaving them the idea that they could not stay with one single dream of what they want in life because sometimes it’s better to give up on the single dream when you know you cannot accomplish it and create a new dream that you know you can do. Chapter 9 Analysis In chapter 9 of The Great Gatsby, the book begins to close as the events all tie together. The ending felt like it was always coming even if Gatsby thought he could cheat another man. Although the events in chapter 9 may be more detailed, there is a symbol that describes the American Dream for many people, and that is â€Å"the green light† at the end of Daisy’s docks. This can describe the American Dream for many because the green light on the docks signals peoples dreams and hopes for what he desires in life. In the book it represented Gatsby’s dreams of marrying Daisy and being able to have her after they had been separated for so long. Nick compares the green light to how America must have looked to the early settlers of the new nation, but when thinking about the modern civilization you must see that the green light is like the prize at the end of our goals. People in our modern day society would say that their dream is to become very successful and live a life full of happiness, yet don’t put the work in for what they believe. The green light is the end result for many because it signals that we have reached our hopes and dreams, and that we can finally say we have achieved the American Dream. In the end, the American Dream is whatever you make it out to be, and for your green light, you have the power to decide whether or not you reach your green light.

A Good Man is Hard to Find Free Online Research Papers The readings â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find† and â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† could be easily said not to share any similarities. Both stories take place in different times, different society backgrounds and beliefs. Even though such is true, after reading these short stories a couple of times, I noticed that there are in facts some similarities between the themes of both stories. As we read through the climax of both, we can instantly notice the frequent use of religion by the characters of both stories. The factors that lead to the use of religion differ from one story to the other, yet in both cases religion tries to explain an unusual situation. In â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find† we can see how the grandmother becomes extremely religious when her life is at stake. From â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† we can see that Pelayo and Elisenda as well as everyone in town all try to find an explanation through religion. I will be show ing in this paper how these two readings both portray man’s behavior when faced with the unexpected. A similar situation can be seen in the story, â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find†, when the family is thrown into desperation right after the car crash in page, 147. The story â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† is a story taking place sometime in the 18th or 19th century. This statement could be checked at the bottom of page 338, â€Å"they had to call in troops with fixed bayonets.† It is well known that during those times religion was a big part of society. The church ruled the state not the government, and because upcoming discoveries in science defiled religious doctrines. Any scientic discovery or explanation was not widely accepted and sometimes even punishable by the law. The common man in this era therefore explained supernatural event through religion. â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† is a fictional piece of writing that uses an extremely unreal setting to portray an unexpected event. Because of the statements above I concluded that the writer must have been trying to portray man’s reaction to the unexpected, man’s reaction to that which has not been previously defined. The story â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find† takes place during the 20th century, it can be noticed from the text that cars are already a major way of transportation and racial segregation was still at its peak. As we read this story we can arrive to the conclusion that religion was only used as a means to survive and as emotional shelter. Starting from page 192 we can see how the grandmother turns into her religious beliefs to persuade the Misfit not to kill her. As stated by the Misfit on page 195, â€Å"she would have been a good woman if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.† This statement clearly shows the grandmother’s â€Å"extremely good† nature when faced with death. It can be clearly seen that the grandmother only appeals to religion to try to control and predict this unexpected situation. In the story â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† we can see a pattern of behavior developing, when Father Gonzaga trie s to calm the masses by preaches just in the same way the Grandmother tries to calm the Misfit, when faced in a dire situation. In both stories, the main characters use religion for their own personal advantage. In the story â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find†, the grandmother tries to convince the Misfit that he is a good man, from a family with good blood, to pray with her to Jesus in order to receive forgiveness for the bad things done in the past hoping that he would hear her and let her go alive even though he had already killed all her family. I don’t really think the grandmother would care that much about religion if it weren’t because her life was at stake and it was the only chance to save herself from a sure death. The grandmother was trying to reach deep into the Misfit’s religious side, somehow she was optimistic in the belief that we all have a religious side and we are all fearful of God in one way or another. In the story â€Å"An Old Man with Enormous Wings† something similar can be perceived. Before the old man arrived in the house, the family lived in a precarious situation. The house was in ruins, full of crabs and very stinky. They were also completely out of money and just living on a day to day basis. When the old man arrives, and they are told that he was an angel, they threw him in the chicken coop to live in an even worse situation than they were living in and the only thing they cared about was the money they could make out of him. As this shows, neither story demonstrates a great appreciation towards religion; they bend religion to achieve or accomplish materialistic goals instead of practicing and adoring the greater gifts provided for them. As we can see from the supporting statements above, it seems that religion is man’s weapon against the unknown. If there were something in common between these two stories it would definitely be the image of society they seek to portray. The two stories are taking place at two different times in history, yet we can clearly see the fact that people in both stories use religion as a tool for achieving selfish goals. They only seek religion when they need it, when things go bad and nothing or anyone else is there to answer their needs. Both stories somehow try to answer the question of, â€Å"is man’s true nature good or evil?† In our last group discussion many of my classmates seemed to believe the grandmother was evil, but if we think about this statement carefully, saying she’s evil implies that we’re all evil. Unlike â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings†, â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find† portrays man’s behavior to the unexpected by narrating a story that could happen to any of us. â€Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings† portrays the same point but with a more fictional atmosphere. At first, the meanings and themes of the stories may seem confusing to the reader, but after a second read it becomes clear that the point is to portray a fact about all of us, a fact of life. I concluded that both short stories reveal man’s true nature when facing the unexpected. One reason the article gives as a possible explanation of the loss of the south is that the southern artillerymen were firing in unison because they were unorganized. The artillery was not supposed to go off at the same time because there would be a short period of heavy fire followed by a long period of no fire that allowed an opportunity for an advance of the Union troops. Lee knew about this but decided not to do anything about it. Another possible reason why the south lost the battle of Gettysburg is because of Pickett's Charge. Pickett's Charge was a charge ordered by Lee and commanded by George Pickett. The reason Pickett's Charge was ordered is because Lee believed the north was retreating because they were not firing anymore. The reason why Lee could not see if the north was retreating or not is because the north was positioned at the top of a long slow slopping hill behind a sto newall. The south charged up hill through the cornfield and when they were 300 feet away from the north the north started firing at the south again. Over  ¾ of the southern army was either killed or wounded because of Pickett's charge. Another possible reason for the south's loss is because of a lack of ammunition because a miss communication between Lee and Pendleton. I think that the main reason why the south lost the battle of Gettysburg is because of Pickett's charge. I think this because the south lost about  ¾ of their men while the north was virtually unharmed. The north was unharmed because they were behind a stone wall and the south was charging through an open field. I think that all of the other reasons why the south lost at Gettysburg contributed to their loss but the main reason was because the south lost so many men at Pickett's Charge. ...

This experience is vital, because it is the first time students really get to experience what a real teacher does day after day (Ryan, 1992). It is not uncommon for students to leave Education programs after student teaching because they find they do not enjoy the duties teachers are expected to do or they have trouble learning how to manage students. The field of education has bee viewed by some as a safe place to work in many ways. Traditionally, teachers do not need to worry about fluctuations in the economy because they rarely are retrenched, even when tax revenue declines. Teaching has been viewed as an easy job with lots of perks, such as summers off and a short workday. The one downside to teaching, in the traditional point of view, is the relatively low pay when compared to other professions that require a college degree (Students, 2012). This view of teaching and working in Education is still intact, but has become dated over the past several years. The first way this myth about working in Education has been shattered is a result of the recent economic depression. Education, as a sector of the economy, has lost a record number of jobs (Teachers, 2012). School districts all across America have been dismissing teacher as they try to make their precious tax dollars stretch farther.

Each staff member has his own responsibility.   Producer   Producer has several tasks to cover in a playwright. He is concerned with a clearer production on theatre or stage. He analyzes the play, edit and write to make the play much better. Producer is the person who takes the initiative in any play and he’s the first place where play has to be started.   The producer determines where play has to set. That is what would be the right location for a play where all the rehearsals can take place. It is all in the hands of the producer to find a good director of the play. He’s responsible for the location of performances. He determines how many and which play has to be performed. In addition there are several other correlated tasks like marketing and advertising activities and all remaining activities associated with the complete production of a play. He’s also responsible for contacting various people and concerned companies, departments, schools for obtaining permission for the production of a play at particular place.   Producer is also responsible for finding the cameramen, cinematography, music and picture settings.   Producer also manages the workshops to enhance role of each and every individual and to train the staff for their relevant tasks. Producers have choice to either work part-time or full time. Some producers only work part time and have several other jobs to complete. Some producers also work as volunteers by choice. They are separately on the kind of job they’ve done and time they invest. The main focus that makes a theatre play successful is their interaction, cooperation and responsible act. It does not matter that whether they’re working on part-time basis or full, voluteering their job or not but the main thing is that how responsibly they interact. Producers stand responsible for the overall production of the play. Producers can act individually or they may work in groups. Raising the finances Producers are responsible for raising the finances for the theatre. They set prices and plans for how money can be raised for one play. He’s also responsible for setting the pay of other staff members. He calculates the costs and profits. Usually producing a theatre play entails high cost. A lot of funds investiment is required to have the play completed. Script selection Producer determines that which script he needs for a particular play. Producer is always in direct contact with the writers and ask them about what needs to be done for a particular play. Because requirements for each play is totally different. And the story and plot of the play must be compelling enough to let the viewers enjoy it. Plot of the play and overall story has lot to do with the success of a drama. Hence, producer works in close collaboration with writers about a particular play. Place of performance Producer is mainly responsible for setting the place where play will be carried out. Place has to determine a lot about the play. The writer also needs to write according to the place and background.   Role of Director in Theatre   Directors direct the play. Directors set the play setting and command for action. He directs the production. He interprets the vision of a writer into actual form. Prior to that, the leading actor or actress would dictate the shape of stage arrangements, usually for their own benefit. The eighteenth century actress Sarah Siddons was famous for this, even once ending Macbeth at the sleepwalking scene.† (Wikipedia) The director plays the primary role in making decisions in the play. He interprets the text of writer and then decides how the scene has to be accomplished. He’s the primary visionary of the play. However, in every theatre and every play director has different roles to observe and their authority over various tasks also differ. In different states, every theatre determines the kind of responsibility and task to be assigned to the director. It may also vary according to the play that needs to be directed. The responsibility on each director depends on which state and theatre he is working with and what kind of play he has to cover. Different theatre companies determine what tasks need to be assigned. Directors work in cooperation with other staff members and work in collaboration with them to accomplish a task. The directing can be adopted for different styles. In another kind of style a director is much lenient and talks with every member about what should be done and everyone has a part to play and suggest what is best. He can be a creative artist who artistically commands each and every action of the play. He may take suggestions from others but only authorized to give final decisions. Directors have also to do something with the light settings, bulbs, intensity and shades. Directors determine where the lights will fall, which area should be shadowed and where light intensity should be great to view the scene. Actor and actress also play major part in determining the kind of clothes, make up and stage settings. Directors set that few lights have to be set on the actors. He may constantly talk and negotiate with others to produce quality scene. Role of Designer in Theatre Designer design the play backgrounds. Designer also designs the hairstyle, clothing and other related stuff of the actors. He also designs the background settings and the environment. The overall scene must be very powerful, eye-catching, and modernistic. In some scenes designer calls for realistic view of the image, while at other pictures of the scenes it must be not very clear to elude the realism. Everything was kept very simple. Background must be very good with perfect lighting and composition to keep everything straightforward. The role of Play-writer Play writer, of course is the main person who writes the script of the play. The writer writes the dialogues, speeches, scenes, backgrounds and other related stuff. Play-writer interacts with producer and directors to find out opportunities and possible thing in his writing. He writes the suspense, opening and ending. The story, script, direction and production combined made the theatre compelling. The writer must first know the story of the play and what has to be written. The writer is contacted by the director and producers both. The writer writes the complete play and show this to director and producer. As directors and producers are directly involved with the play, they constantly gets in touch with the writer to have any improvement the write-up, story, and plot. â€Å"Like any form of technical writing, scriptwriting has its own ends and outs that must be adhered to in order for your script to be taken as a serious venture by the rest of the world. It is a synthesis of drama, opera, ballet, poetry recital, and musical recital, which also draws on earlier forms of Chinese theatrical performances such as mime, farce, acrobatics, ballad recital, and medley, some of which go back to the third century B.C. or even earlier. In a Kunqu performance, recitative is interspersed with arias sung to traditional melodies, called qu-pai. Each word or phrase is also expressed by a stylized movement or gesture that is essentially part of a dance, with strict rules of style and execution much like classical ballet. For theatre actors, they have to presume that they know the end result of the theatre. The play is shown in very naà ¯ve manner and with clarity to depict the historical period accurately. Though there might be some deviations from the real facts when analyzed in details. However, production is good and historical events are portrayed well. The image of the characters is well depicted (Murder in the Cathederal).   Play is formed with multidimensional platform with big cast to handle and with beautiful lighting decoration of the stage. It tried to give exact picture of Thomas’ world and his internal and external relationship in cathedral. The visual experience is very good and pictures historical period. The chorus of females, who were six from Canterbury, used to sing the fears, oppression, despair and sufferings of people representing an ordinary folk. This chorus were mainly chanting and speaking of ordinary people hardships they suffer due to the temporal power on them. In the play they are narrating to the audience about the past and express their feelings about the fate. The women of Canterbury sang about destiny, which focus the environment of play on martyrdom, life and death. To some extent they foretell Thomas murder. Portray of women was shown as protective, caring, weak but intuitive, and quintessence of Canterbury people (Murder in the Cathederal). Conclusion Interaction of Producer, Director, Designer, Writer and Actors is very important in production of a play. The details of setting and characters are directed very accurately and in cost-effective way. All the individual elements like script, characters, acting, lighting, direction, production, writing, editing and photography all perfectly correlated. A perfect balance must be created in all the settings. All these things from playwriting to final production of the play are equally interrelated. If everything is done perfectly in its place then the play goes very well. Science of Epidemiology Edward Truelove EPIDEMIOLOGY Introduction This assignment will identify and explain what epidemiology is and describe how epidemiologists collect and analyse specific data. It will then identify a number of aspects of the science and then look a disease and see how epidemiologists data was used to influence health promotion. What is Epidemiology? Epidemiology is the ‘science concerned with the study of the factors determining and influencing the frequency and distribution of disease, injury, and other health-related events and their causes in a defined human population. Also, the sum of knowledge gained in such a study. There are two main types of Epidemiology. The first one is descriptive which describes the occurrence of the disease according to people, place and time and the second is analytic which determines the causation, risk factors for health, disease and association. Descriptive epidemiology describes and investigates the scale of the problem. This is the amount of people that have developed or caught the disease over a specified period. e.g. in 2004 there were 44,659 cases of newly diagnosed breast cancer in the UK. From this epidemiologists would look at the prevalence, the number of people that have the disease or condition at any particular time. e.g. the number of people who are regular smokers within a specified time period. The next factor is to look at how the condition is spread. This is done by analysing categories such as age, gender, socioeconomic class and ethnicity e.g. women from lower social classes are much more likely to smoke than women in higher social classes. Examples of questions asked to collect this data are as follows: What are the health problems? How many people are affected? Who is affected? Which communities are affected and why? What are the trends? Answers to these questions can indicate if primary prevention is possible and it can show the seriousness of the problem and how individuals and communities may be affected. Analytical epidemiology aims to answer the question, why did it happen? This is done by identifying and determining the causes and risk factors for health and disease. Comparisons have to be made between groups with or without the disease and between groups exposed and not exposed to a possible causal factor. Causation can show if there is a link from a certain disease to environmental influences, lifestyle or socioeconomic factors. To find the cause, epidemiologists can use inferential statistics to draw inferences about apopulationfrom arandom sample. From analysing the results and assessing the risks, a link between events and contributory factors can be draw and this can vary from negligible to high. Assessing the needs and analysing the data The first step in planning health promotion is to assess the needs and this consists of two elements. Firstly are the health service needs, which are determined from health data such as occurrence, frequency, mortality and morbidity. Secondly is the community determined needs covering issues that individuals and communities have brought to the attention of the local authority, politicians and letters etc. Sometimes these two elements overlap but it is important to identify which are priorities for communities. Health data is analysed according to who has been affected and this shows which communities are affected the most so that resources can be allocated. From this information about prevention begin. Prevention Primary prevention consists of trying to keep people healthy and free from disease such as immunization and encouragement of healthy lifestyles. Secondary prevention tries to identify the disease and persuade people to go for treatment at the earliest opportunity. Examples could be a cough that could lead to tuberculosis or a fever that could lead to influenza. In some conditions once the disease has developed it can often be too late, so one of the key roles of health promotion is to encourage screening i.e. breast cancer. Tertiary prevention involves actions if the disease has become very serious. This is to promote recovery and focus on rehabilitation to help speed the recovery. An example of primary prevention would be lung cancer as it is know what causes it, but it is not suitable for breast cancer as the causes are not yet known. Prevention can only take place if the causes can be established. Causes Epidemiologists need to establish causes and to look at many factors such as the environment, society and individuals. They also need to find out what causes the cause as there can be a whole chain of causal factors triggering a chain of events. These study designs are used for finding out possible causes, although they do not prove causal relationships as they just look at associations. There are two types of analytical study designs. The first is group one which are used for finding out possible causes. Ecological studies compare studies of a particular disease in different communities to try to ascertain the cause. Cross-sectional studies sample a section of society at one particular time to see if there are common characteristics between people. Case control studies compare a sample of people with a disease to a sample without and a conclusion can be drawn to see if characteristics are more likely to be found in people with the disease. Group two analytical studies are stronger design studies which are used to provide evidence for causal relationships. Cohort studies, also known as prospective or longitudinal studies are when a large sample of the population is followed over a long period of time to monitor their lifestyle and exposure to the risks. From this, the incidence of the disease can be followed to look for causal risks. Examples of this are following a sample of the population for fifty years to see if there is a link between smoking and lung cancer. Intervention study involves exposing a random selection of people to a health promotion trial to find out if the if intervention has health benefits and then to compare the results to a group of people who have not. Results can be analysed to establish if there are key variable such as income, age, distribution, etc. Relative or attributable risk provides a measure of the strength of a causal relationship. Decisions can be made from this as to how many lives c ould be saved if the causal factor was removed. Epidemiologists have also to work out which are confounding factors, ones that can appear to be associated with a disease but are not a causal. From all the information and studies undertaken there has to be a systematic review to identify which studies have strong conclusions. From the evidence, reasons can be worked out for showing the causes of health problems and disease and an action plan for health promotion can be set out. Epidemiology is an essential key discipline in health promotion and unless the specific factors that cause a health problem are identified, action cannot be taken to prevent it and promote health. Swine flu and Epidemiology What are the health problems? In the case of swine flu, dry cough, sore throat, headache and fatigue are the most common associated symptoms. Typically patients will have a fever over 38C. Most people recover in a week without any specific treatment. How many are affected In swine flu the number of cases in the UK rose quickly after the first established cases in Scotland. By May 312009, there were 252 confirmed cases in the UK.Seventy of these had been to Mexico or the US seven days prior to infection, and 178 reported that they had not been abroad. Who is affected? In the case of swine flu, in the first months of its outbreak in the UK, it mostly affected young people, and was most commonly spread through contact at schools. These findingsare based on an analysis ofthe first 252 cases of the disease diagnosed in the UK after news of the virus broke What are the trends? Of the 168 who contracted the infection it was established the likely place of viral transmission: 60% had been acquired in school; 25% from a household environment; 8% in the community; 1% (two cases) acquired in the workplace; Less than 1% (one case) in a healthcare environment; 5% acquired elsewhere. (nhs.uk) Which communities are affected and why? People of all genders and ages, including infants and the elderly were developing the disease equally. Due to a larger proportion of younger people travelling abroad and being in contact with younger people, the average age of the first 252 infected people was 20 years. Of the 178 first cases in the UK, 22% reported contact with someone who had developed the infection overseas (secondary infection) and 70% reported contact with a secondary case. 7% were not aware that they had contacted anyone (nhs.uk) Influence on health promotion The disease was first identified in Mexico in April 2009 and quickly spread round the globe. Initially the HNS had to make the public aware of the health problems through the media and do everything to contain the disease such as closing schools. After a while it was classed as a pandemic and moved from a containment status to treatment status. Generally the disease was fairly mild and was usually more serious in patients with other health problems. Part of the health promotion campaign was to offer antiviral medicines, Tamiflu or Relenza. Another step was to identify who and which communities are affected, and those people that are in high risk groups, as they are more likely to develop to complications. Vulnerable people are those who have lung disease, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease and diabetes. Also at risk are people who have had drug treatment, pregnant women, people over 65 and children under five. A health promotion campaign through the Television and media was used to make these particular groups aware of the potential risks. Swine flu vaccination began in October 2009 The NHS issued information to the public to stop the disease spreading such as good respiratory and hand hygiene i.e. sneezing into a tissue and putting it a bin and to wash your hands and work surfaces at home regularly. Though no theory concerning this issue has been entirely successful, many theories present alternatives as to how it can be approached. Two of the most basic metaphysical theories concerning freedom and determinism are soft determinism and hard determinism. Soft determinism attempts to make the disagreeing data of determinism and freedom compatible. The theory of soft determinism rests on three fundamental claims: (1) the deterministic concept that human behaviour is causally determined; (2) that there is freedom in voluntary behaviour, so long as there is no physical impediment or constraint upon the action; and (3) that the cause of the voluntary behaviour (which is possible in the absence of impediments or constraints) is an internal state of the agent of the action. Ludlow And Dudley Castle :: Papers

Ludlow And Dudley Castle Ludlow Caste was built around 1085. Castles built around this time were mostly Motte and Bailey. This made a good defence but was not typical of castle defences. Ludlow Castle was the first stone castle, which was unusual. Because of its Royal Connections a lot of money was spent on Ludlow Castle especially on better defences. Dudley Castle on the other hand is different and is a Motte and Bailey castle. Motte and Bailey castles are typical and were common. Later on Dudley Castle was demolished and remade into a stone castle. Dudley Castle is built on a natural hill, which is a good defence whilst Ludlow Castle is not built on a hill but has a steep 100ft drop. A steep drop makes it harder for the enemy to climb up or attack. This defence is not typical because no other castle will have a 100ft drop. This is an excellent choice of location and makes an ideal defence. Dudley Castle has evidence of a Motte running around because I noticed a pond and ditch like features. Ludlow Castle only had a ditch around the inner bailey. We know this is not a Motte because it has a door room inside the ditch; this is probably where they went through to collect the dead bodies of their enemies. Both castles have barbicans and both castles also have high walls. Ludlow Castle has a river and so has a drawbridge. Dudley and Ludlow Castle both have crenellations. Ludlow Castle also has machicolations this meant that it was well defended as they could throw missiles from the flanking towers above. The most typical thing about both castles is that they both have a Keep, which was the most important part of the castle. Most of Ludlow Castles' defences are typical but it has a few which are original. For example the 100ft drop. I think Ludlow's defences are very strong and it would be hard to conquer.
